Microsoft has just released two critical cumulative updates for Windows 11 – KB5121003 and KB5120240 – designed to fix security vulnerabilities, bugs, and add new features. These mandatory updates contain the August 2026 Patch Tuesday security patches for a staggering 400 vulnerabilities discovered in previous months.
The updates are applicable to all versions of Windows 11, including 25H2/24H2 and 23H2. You can install them by going to Settings > Windows Update and clicking on ‘Check for Updates’, or manually download and install the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
This is the eighth Patch Tuesday release in 2026, and it’s based on 24H2, which means 25H2 gets the same update. There are no exclusive or special changes – you’ll get the same fixes across both versions of Windows 11.
One of the key features of this update is its ability to improve Windows Search at handling typos and partial app names when finding installed apps. This means that users will be able to find what they’re looking for more easily, even if they make mistakes while typing. Additionally, the update improves Settings relevance, making it easier to surface useful settings higher in search results.
Another notable feature is the addition of Voice Isolation to Voice Access, which helps recognize your voice by reducing interference from other speakers and background noise. This feature comes with three speed recognition modes: Voice Isolation, Remove background noise only, and No filtering. To set up Voice Isolation, users can go to Voice Access settings > Improve speech recognition and select Voice Isolation.
The update also includes several minor features and improvements, such as the addition of Korean language support for voice access, new gesture controls for precision touchpads, and simplified Lock screen Widgets experience. Additionally, the update improves keyboard navigation when keyboard focus is set to the apps list within Start menu, and ensures system dialogs open at the appropriate size on small tablets.
In terms of accessibility, the update improves the Magnifier experience on touch-enabled devices by turning off the horizontal and vertical touch bars used to pan the magnified view by default. This prevents them from obstructing magnified content.
