Microsoft has released two critical cumulative updates, KB5124008 and KB5122880, for Windows 11 versions 25H2/24H2 and 23H2. These updates are mandatory as they contain the September 2026 Patch Tuesday security patches for a staggering 1,000 vulnerabilities discovered in previous months.
The updates address not only security flaws but also introduce new features and bug fixes. One of the most notable additions is the ability to customize the taskbar’s position on your screen. The Start menu settings page has also been redesigned with section-level toggles to independently show or hide pinned, recommended, and all items.
The Windows Search feature has also received improvements, making it easier to scan and clearer before you click on results. The search home has been simplified, recent searches are now more easily accessible, and the origins of search results have been made clear – app, setting, file, web result, or Store suggestion.
Finally, File Explorer Home is now faster and more responsive, with improved touch scrolling support in the Recommended section. Overall, these updates aim to provide a more consistent and modern experience for Windows 11 users.
For those who want to manually download and install the update, they can do so from the Microsoft Update Catalog. However, it’s recommended to install the update through the built-in Windows Update feature, which will automatically detect and apply the necessary patches.
