Obsidian Security Raises $85 Million in Funding, Valuation Reaches $1.1 Billion
Cybersecurity firm Obsidian Security has secured a significant investment of $85 million in its latest funding round, bringing its valuation to a whopping $1.1 billion. The company will use the funds to accelerate its expansion into agentic AI security, a rapidly growing area of concern for enterprises.
Obsidian’s platform provides real-time governance and monitoring capabilities for AI agents and SaaS applications, ensuring that these tools don’t overstep their bounds or access sensitive data without proper authorization. The firm’s runtime governance layer applies OWASP-aligned risk criteria to identify potential policy violations before they occur, allowing security teams to enforce rules and prevent privilege escalation.
The platform’s latest expansion includes native governance controls for Anthropic’s Claude Code and Cowork, which will enable security teams to restrict agent permissions around production data, manage access to sensitive files, and block unauthorized usage of MCP or tool connections. With this update, Obsidian aims to help enterprises maximize the benefits of AI agents while minimizing the associated risks.
AI agents, such as Microsoft Copilot Studio and Salesforce Agentforce, are increasingly being used by organizations to automate tasks and enhance productivity. However, these tools also introduce new vulnerabilities, particularly when it comes to data access and usage. “AI agents gravitate toward third-party applications,” said Hasan Imam, CEO of Obsidian. “That’s where the data lives, that’s where the work happens, and that’s exactly where the risk lives too.”
According to Obsidian, only 13% of security teams can currently inspect and enforce policy on AI agent traffic in real-time. The company aims to fill this gap by providing a platform that governs what agents do inside third-party applications, allowing enterprises to get the full return on every agent they deploy.
The $85 million investment was led by Crescent Cove Advisors, with participation from Greylock Partners and Menlo Ventures. This funding round brings Obsidian’s total raised to over $200 million, further solidifying its position in the cybersecurity market.
As AI security becomes an increasingly pressing concern for enterprises, Obsidian’s platform is well-positioned to address this need. With its native governance controls and real-time monitoring capabilities, the company is helping organizations mitigate the risks associated with AI agents while maximizing their benefits.
For security teams looking to stay ahead of the curve, it’s essential to understand the potential risks and vulnerabilities introduced by AI agents. By adopting a robust governance approach and utilizing tools like Obsidian’s platform, enterprises can ensure that their AI-powered applications are secure, compliant, and effective in driving business outcomes.
