Mindgard Raises $30 Million to Protect AI Systems

Mindgard Secures $30 Million to Protect Against AI Risks

In a significant move to bolster defenses against the growing threat of artificial intelligence (AI) security risks, Mindgard, an AI security startup, has raised $30 million in a Series A funding round. This investment brings the company’s total funding close to $42 million and paves the way for further development and deployment of its automated AI security platform.

Founded in 2022 by a team of researchers from Lancaster University, Mindgard offers a unique solution to identify and respond to AI risks. Its platform leverages the concept of “red-teaming,” where AI systems are subjected to simulated attacks to uncover vulnerabilities. By continuously analyzing the attack surface, Mindgard’s technology delivers runtime protection to prevent attacks in real-time.

The company’s platform has already uncovered over 150 vulnerabilities across popular AI products, including a zero-day code execution flaw in Cursor IDE and security defects in Google Antigravity and ChatGPT. This level of exposure underscores the pressing need for robust AI security measures to protect organizations from emerging threats.

Mindgard CEO James Brear emphasized the importance of addressing the new attack surface created by AI, stating, “AI is creating an entirely new attack surface and organizations need a fundamentally different approach to securing it.” He added that Mindgard’s platform operationalizes expertise, turning the knowledge of leading AI security researchers into actionable capabilities for enterprises.

The fresh funding will enable Mindgard to scale its product, engineering, sales, and marketing teams. The investment is expected to accelerate deployments across various sectors, including financial services, digital services, gaming, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and semiconductors.

As organizations increasingly rely on AI systems to drive innovation and efficiency, the risk of these systems being compromised by malicious actors grows exponentially. Mindgard’s platform offers a much-needed solution to this problem, providing real-time protection against AI-based threats.

In practical terms, this means that enterprises should prioritize investing in AI security solutions like Mindgard’s. By doing so, they can mitigate the risks associated with their reliance on AI and ensure the integrity of their systems. As AI continues to transform industries, it is essential for organizations to stay ahead of emerging threats by adopting proactive security measures.
