A massive data breach at healthcare IT firm CareCloud has exposed sensitive information for over 350,000 individuals. According to recent notifications sent out by the company, hackers gained access to one of its Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments between March 10 and 16, potentially exfiltrating personal, financial, and medical data.
The breach is believed to have affected a specific electronic health record environment within CareCloud’s Health division. An investigation into the incident revealed that unauthorized parties accessed sensitive information, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, government ID numbers, financial account numbers, credit/debit card numbers, and medical and health insurance details.
CareCloud has taken steps to secure the affected environment and confirmed that no persistent unauthorized access remained. However, the company is still working to determine the total number of individuals impacted by the breach. In addition, it remains unclear who was responsible for the attack, with CareCloud saying it would not comment on specifics at this time.
