According to Google Cloud’s COO and president of security products, Francis deSouza, the average time from initial breach to handoff of access to another threat actor has collapsed from 8 hours three years ago to just 22 seconds. To combat this challenge, Google is deploying AI-powered agents that can handle mundane tasks such as sorting through false alarms and prioritizing threats. These agents will be integrated into the cloud infrastructure, freeing up human security teams to focus on high-priority incidents that require their expertise. As Jack Gold, principal analyst at J. Gold Associates, notes, “Security-based AI agents embedded in the cloud infrastructure will increasingly be deployed to protect against real-world, near-instantaneous threat mitigation.”

One key component of Google’s agentic defense platform is its integration with Wiz attack surface management (ASM) and Google Threat Intelligence (TI). When Wiz ingests posture and workload telemetry from Google Cloud, it enriches detections in real-time with Google TI and pushes prioritized exposure data directly into security operations playbooks and cases. This seamless integration enables SOC teams to investigate and respond to cloud-native risks without switching between tools.

Google’s agentic defense strategy is part of a broader effort to create a comprehensive cybersecurity stack that spans from chips to code to cloud. By combining its own AI stack, global infrastructure, and processor capabilities with Wiz’s contextual risk prioritization capabilities, Google aims to deliver a unified system for discovering, evaluating, and protecting applications. As deSouza emphasizes, “We’re the only security company that has our own AI stack, which allows us to build security into every layer of the stack.”
