Windows 11 Users Receive Mandatory Security Patches and New Features in Latest Updates
Microsoft has rolled out two crucial updates, KB5101650 and KB5099414, to address security vulnerabilities, bugs, and introduce new features for Windows 11 users. These cumulative updates are mandatory, as they include the July 2026 Patch Tuesday patches for 571 previously discovered vulnerabilities.
The updates can be installed by going to Settings > Windows Update and clicking on ‘Check for Updates.’ Alternatively, users can manually download and install the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog. This is the seventh Patch Tuesday release in 2026, and it’s based on version 24H2, which means that both 25H2 and 23H2 will receive the same fixes.
With this update, Microsoft has added Point-in-Time restore for everyone but has given enterprise customers greater control over it. The company has also made several improvements to various aspects of Windows 11, including widgets, accessibility features, File Explorer, and Bluetooth connectivity.
One of the notable new features is a quieter and more focused Widgets experience that helps reduce distractions and improves default settings and notification controls. This includes minimizing notifications and taskbar badges by default, simplifying the user interface, and customizing the widgets to suit individual preferences.
Another significant improvement is in accessibility, where Microsoft has made it easier for users to adjust their screen tint and zoom levels. The Screen Tint feature allows users to apply a full-screen color overlay to reduce eye strain and improve readability. Additionally, the Magnifier now supports direct zoom percentage input and increment changes.
File Explorer also receives some attention with the update, including improved performance, faster launch times, and enhanced responsiveness when mounting disk images. The address bar is now more reliable and compatible with a wider range of inputs, including paths containing double backslashes and quotation marks.
Bluetooth connectivity has been improved as well, with better reliability and performance when connecting to and using Bluetooth devices. Microsoft has also addressed issues related to microphone muting state synchronization between the audio mixer and Hands-Free Profile (HFP) for a more consistent experience with Bluetooth headphones.
