A notorious cyberstalker has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for extorting women with AI-generated porn videos. James Strahler II, a 37-year-old Ohio man, used advanced artificial intelligence tools to create explicit content featuring his victims’ likenesses without their consent. He then shared these images and videos online, threatening to release them publicly if the women didn’t comply with his demands.
Strahler’s crimes spanned several months, from December 2024 to June 2025. During this time, he sent harassing messages to at least six adult female victims, including nude images of themselves that were either real or AI-generated. He also created over 700 images of both real and animated individuals, posting them on a website dedicated to child sexual abuse material. Furthermore, Strahler’s phone contained an additional 2,400 flagged images and videos depicting nudity, morphed child sexual abuse material, or violence.
Strahler’s tactics were particularly insidious because he used AI-generated content to create the illusion that his victims had engaged in explicit activities without their knowledge. He then shared these fake images with their co-workers, demanded nude photos from the mothers of multiple women he was harassing, and left voicemails threatening rape. In one disturbing instance, Strahler even posted online child sexual abuse material that he had generated using AI.
Strahler’s case is significant not only because of its severity but also because it highlights the emerging threat of AI-generated content in cyberstalking cases. The Take It Down Act, enacted in 2025, prohibits online publication of explicit content and AI forgeries without consent. Strahler was the first defendant to be convicted under this law.
