Catch Raises $5 Million for AI Executive Assistant With Built-In Security Features
A startup called Catch has secured $5 million in funding to further develop its artificial intelligence-powered executive assistant. This AI agent, also called Catch, is designed to perform tasks like scheduling meetings and booking travel, but with a key difference: it’s built with security features that prevent it from overstepping its boundaries.
The company behind Catch claims that its AI agent can safely move beyond analysis and reporting to make active decisions on behalf of executives. This is made possible by the fact that the user explicitly defines which personal and workspace assets the agent can access during the onboarding process. For example, if granted access to an executive’s inbox, calendar, and travel accounts, the agent will only monitor those specific areas. If it detects a flight booked without a hotel attached, its reasoning capabilities will proactively check rates at the executive’s usual hotel and ask whether to book it.
This human-like judgment call is made in collaboration with the executive, who is kept informed of any decisions made by the agent. The Catch AI agent can coordinate with guests to schedule meetings, book travel, and handle follow-ups to correspondence, all without requiring new tools or interfaces for the user to learn.
The development of Catch highlights the potential benefits of outsourcing complex agents rather than building them in-house. While executives can build their own agentic admin assistants using modern coding agents, it’s questionable whether they can ensure adequate security features are built-in without impacting performance. Outsourced agents like Catch, on the other hand, come with pre-installed security features that prevent overstepping.
Catch’s autonomy and security are constrained by multiple internal guardrails, including cloud infrastructure with layers of security, encryption, and monitoring to protect user data. The agent never performs actions outside granted permissions, which can be amended at any time. Moreover, the agent includes human oversight in decision-making processes, similar to a human assistant seeking approval from their boss.
The company uses single sign-on for authentication, stores sensitive credentials and API keys securely, encrypts all data in transit and at rest, and continuously monitors for unusual activity. The Catch AI agent is available for $99/month, offering an improved admin assistant at a fraction of the cost of hiring a human executive assistant.
