Cybersecurity Firm N-able Issues Urgent Warning as Attackers Exploit Critical Flaw in Flagship Platform
N-able, a leading provider of remote monitoring and management (RMM) solutions, is warning customers that attackers are actively exploiting a critical authentication bypass vulnerability in its flagship platform, N-central. The flaw, identified as CVE-2026-18577, affects all versions of N-central before 2026.3 and has been detected in active exploitation.
This latest threat highlights the ongoing risk faced by managed service providers (MSPs) and corporate IT departments that rely on RMM platforms like N-central to manage large clusters of multi-OS systems and network devices. Compromising these servers can grant attackers extended access to sensitive infrastructure, making it a high-stakes attack vector.
The vulnerability in question stems from an incomplete patch for CVE-2026-18576, which was previously described as an “authentication bypass using an alternate path or channel.” This issue allowed attackers to take control of administrative accounts, compromising the security of N-central installations. The patch was intended to address this issue, but it appears that some versions were not properly updated.
N-able has taken swift action by releasing a hotfix (2026.3.1.7) to address the vulnerability and strongly recommends that all customers upgrade immediately to the new release. Hosted deployments have already received the update, while on-premises instances require manual installation.
The company’s warning comes as no surprise, given the recent history of RMM platform vulnerabilities being exploited by attackers. In 2025, we saw notable examples of zero-day attacks targeting Kaseya VSA, ConnectWise ScreenConnect, SimpleHelp, and SolarWinds Orion. These incidents serve as a reminder that even reputable vendors can be vulnerable to exploitation.
To mitigate this threat, N-able has provided indicators of compromise on its hotfix download page, including specific IP addresses and system processes that may indicate unauthorized access. Customers are advised to contact N-able support immediately if they suspect their environment has been compromised.
The takeaway from this incident is clear: RMM platforms like N-central are critical infrastructure components that require ongoing monitoring and patching to prevent exploitation by attackers. As we’ve seen with previous incidents, even the most robust security measures can be bypassed or exploited with the right knowledge and tools.
To stay ahead of threats, it’s essential for organizations to prioritize proactive security measures, including regular vulnerability scanning, patch management, and incident response planning. By staying vigilant and monitoring their environments closely, businesses can minimize the risk of successful attacks and ensure continuity in the face of emerging threats.
