A New Malware Threat Emerges, Using AI to Prioritize High-Value Targets

The latest example of this trend is a new remote access trojan called Dolphin X, which boasts an AI-powered profiling feature that helps attackers identify and target their most valuable victims.
According to researchers at Varonis Threat Labs, the Dolphin X malware uses an “AI Profiler” to analyze information collected from infected computers and assign each victim a risk score. This allows attackers to prioritize their targets, focusing on those who are most likely to provide access to valuable accounts, cryptocurrency, corporate networks, or production systems.
The AI Profiler is just one of the many features offered by Dolphin X, which claims to have 329 functions across ten categories. These include credential-stealing capabilities that target over 300 applications, as well as the ability to steal sensitive data such as .env files, SSH keys, and cloud access tokens.
